Research repeatedly shows that executive support is essential to project success and that lack of executive support is a leading cause of project failure. The Rochester Chapter of PMI, in partnership with Project Solutions, is proud to offer Creating the Environment to help leaders and leadership teams understand how to create a culture that fosters successful projects.

Leaders must understand the project management process, insist on establishing the strategic importance of every project, and effectively communicate that importance to the organization. They must also build the organizational support structures that allow a project to be completed efficiently, predictably, and profitably.

The program begins with a review of the basic concepts and definitions used in project management. The elements of the project-management environment that contribute to a successful project are then analyzed:

  • Strategic balance,
  • Clear priorities, and
  • Flexible support

The program introduces the Project Success® Model for project managers, supporting managers, and executives of the firm. An interactive workshop will show you how to improve the information design of your project life cycle using a Dependency State Matrix (DSM).

You will also have the opportunity to participate in an exciting sequence of competitive project simulations , Stays & Days® & Dragons. The simulations combine individual initiative, competitive teamwork, risk analysis, gut instinct, and some hot dice rolls to challenge each team.

Along the way, each participant will experience the satisfaction of beating the team's targets for cost and schedule, and the thrill of outscoring the other teams in a particular round. The debriefing sessions will focus on the optimal strategy for managing costs and schedules as a project progresses.

The program is interactive, provocative, engaging , and valuable. You'll leave knowing what you must do to create the environment for successful projects in your firm.

Upon completion, you will be able to:

  • Describe how better project management leads to better business results
  • Delineate the PM responsibilities of: a project manager, a middle manager, an executive
  • Create an enabling resource environment for successful projects
  • Understand the mechanics of range-based estimation and earned-value performance management
  • Take concrete steps to improve the practice of project management in your organization

As an additional bonus: Program participants will be able to have up to 25 of their organization's project professionals assessed with our research-based, proprietary competency assessment, at a significant discount. Please contact Project Solutions for more information.
